THE CHALLENGE

Tesco, one of the largest retailers in the UK, needed a corporate network refresh that could provide the connectivity and reliability required for its day-to-day operations.

The current equipment was nearing its end-of-life, and a seamless transition was needed across the UK and Eastern Europe, comprising 3400 sites, to ensure that its network provided optimal connectivity and reliability.

NSC’S SOLUTION

Partnering with Verizon, NSC was chosen to store, stage, deliver and install the necessary equipment and implement the new network solution, which needed to be completed within a twoyear period at scale.

NSC’s team of experts worked closely with Verizon and Tesco to plan a seamless transition to the new solution.

NSC conducted Wi-Fi site surveys to ensure optimal installation locations and that site challenges were addressed in advance of implementation. Verizon procured equipment from Juniper which was stored in NSC’s state-of-the-art storage and staging centre in Feltham. It was staged, tested, and configured before being shipped to the individual sites ready for the engineers to install.

The installation process needed to be scheduled out of hours with 20 sites being targeted each night to ensure a smooth transition.

NSC’s national and European reach has been a significant point of difference, enabling the company to complete a large volume of
sites and install a total number of access points.

RESULTS

We are now over a year into the project and to date, we are ahead of schedule with a minimal failure rate with little or no impact to Tesco’s day-to-day operations.

NSC’s expertise and dedication is providing a seamless transition that has exceeded expectations. In the UK we are providing support and maintenance services for both existing and newly transformed sites. The new networking solution is already providing improved reliability,functionality and connectivity whilst meeting the end-of-life criteria and future-proofing the network for years to come.

NSC’s national and European reach and provision of expert engineers at scale have ensured that the programme has run efficiently and met all targets despite a tough delivery timeline. Tesco has continued to operate its business without disruption, providing increased connectivity and reliability to its customers. This is the largest ever Juniper MIST global roll-out at project commencement.
