Meet Phil Fernandes – Global Recruiter, Ohio

NSC is an organisation of 2,500 people around the world. Our success is due to the brilliant work of the teams that service our multinational clients; so our success is also due to the individuals who recruit those brilliant teams.

Phil Fernandes is one of those wonderful individuals who finds the best talent to ensure NSC remains a world-class organisation. He has been with NSC for a short time, but his reputation as an excellent recruiter and a convivial colleague has grown quickly.

Hi Phil,

You joined NSC in 2016. What brought you to our organisation?

I joined NSC because I was looking for a global organization where diversity was valued and where I would be exposed to several different projects. Since I started, back in 2016, I have been able to recruit not only in North America but also in Europe.

You are originally from Brazil, now living in Cincinnati, Ohio. What do you miss most about Brazil? And what do you love most about Ohio?

I really miss the food from Brazil: cheese bread, barbecue and açaí. I moved to the US from Australia and really miss Vegemite, savory pies and of course the beach. What I love most about Cincinnati, OH is the easy access to a diverse cuisine and all the local breweries.

You’ve also lived in Australia. What inspired you to live abroad?

My Family moved to Brazil from Italy in the early 1900s looking for better opportunities with zero knowledge of Portuguese. Following their path, in 2010 I decided to challenge myself and to get out of my comfort zone, as I wanted to be able to speak English fluently, study, work and travel.

How did you find yourself in recruitment?

One of my majors at University was Organisational Psychology and one of my internships was in recruitment. Since then, all jobs that I have had I have been involved in recruiting.

To be a successful recruiter you need to be able to adjust quickly, be flexible and deliver results

What do you look for in an NSC employee?

We look for people who are self-starters, problem-solvers and have the passion to deliver solutions.

You have a great reputation as a recruiter at NSC, what are the skills you need to be successful in this field?

To be a successful recruiter you need to be able to adjust quickly to changes, be flexible and deliver results.

What do you enjoy most about your job?

I love talking to people, learning different cultures and finding the right person for the right job.

And, finally, what do you enjoy doing outside of work?

I love travelling, experiencing new cultures, learning languages and whenever is warm enough you will find me on my deck grilling.

Thanks Phil!
